Cut flowers can make a really lovely addition to your Christmas decorations. But who has time to worry about refreshing flowers when they’re in the midst of the festivities? Selecting flowers with a long shelf can save you time and money, while ensuring that you have beautiful blooms that will see you through from Christmas to New Year. So, what flowers should you be asking for in your Blue Florist one-of-a-kind Christmas floral arrangement?
Long-Lasting Flowers to Choose for Christmas
Chrysanthemums

Probably because they’re a lot cheaper than many other cut flowers, chrysanthemums are hugely underrated. But in terms of bloom-for-your-buck, chrysanthemums are absolute superstars. They last for at least two weeks once cut. Depending on the variety, they can last as long as four weeks, possibly even longer if you trim their stems and change their water. And they come in such a wide array of colours and sizes, they can make a really tremendous addition to any display.
Orchids

Orchids are at the other end of the scale to chrysanthemums. They are a wow flower. And their price can often reflect that. But. They can also last up to three weeks, which makes them worth the investment. And with their own unique style of elegance and beauty, they will always make an impact.
Holly

No plant screams ‘Christmas!’ quite as loudly as holly. And while we all love it for its bright green leaves and jolly red berries, its other major selling point is that it will usually go for a good three weeks before it begins to fade. Especially if you look after it properly. So, while you might want to use holly in a wreath or garland, think how much happier it will be a vase!
Carnations

Carnations are another flower to have fallen out of fashion, simply because they are so widely available. But they can last as long as three weeks in a vase, and they come in a tremendous range of colours and styles. Whether single colour or bi-colour. If used judiciously, they can work wonderfully. And with their scent of cloves, they are just perfect for Christmas.
Protea

If you’re looking to make a statement, you can’t go far wrong with protea. Possibly the most prehistoric-looking flowers around, these big, bold beauties can’t help but catch the eye. And they will last for up to a fortnight once cut. With some varieties lasting up to 21 days if well cared for.
Eryngium

With its spiky blue thistle-like heads, eryngium (also known as sea holly) is always a showstopper. It will look amazing in almost any cut flower arrangement, and will keep looking good for almost a fortnight. And while eryngium is best-known for is blue blooms, it can also be found in white, silver, and green. So, there’s a colour to suit almost every scheme.
Lilies

Lilies are always a floral favourite because they make such a big impression. If you go for the larger sized long-stem lilies, like the stargazer or oriental, you can simply place three in a vase for dramatic impact. You could even run the theme throughout your home with strategically placed vases throughout. Or you could request them to be worked into your one-of-a-kind design. Either way, well cared for lilies will last for two weeks. So, they should see you through the main festivities.
Fresh flowers are nature’s finest decoration. Will you make the most of them this Christmas?
