When we get to this time of year, the focus is – understandably – Christmas. Gifts and decorations dominate, and Christmas flowers usually play their part. But what if your focus is the New Year? Which flowers work best for bringing in the New Year in style?
Five Flowers for New Year’s Style
Roses

Roses are the go-to for almost any celebration. They have so many different meanings and they appeal to so many people that you can’t really go wrong with a beautiful rose arrangement. Whether you mix them in with other blooms – as you see in the beautiful Christmas Vase – or you order a Dramatic Dozen to stand proud in solitude, roses always make the perfect centrepiece. And if you are really looking to say something about the New Year, then white roses symbolise new beginnings.
Lilies

Lilies aren’t for everyone. Bold and blousy and often highly scented, they can easily dominate a small space. But they can also be used to incredibly dramatic effect. And as white lilies are known to symbolise rebirth, they make a great choice for New Year celebrations. In fact, if you mix them with white roses, as in our Beautifully Simple collection, you are covering all of the New Year’s bases!
Carnations

If you’re looking for a flower that simply stands for celebration, then you can’t go far wrong with carnations. Many people shy away from these beautiful flowers, because in the UK, white carnations have become associated with funerals. But traditionally, carnations – especially the brighter shades –were used as a form of celebration. They also have a vase life of 2-3 weeks, so represent great value for money.
Gerberas and germini

Gerberas and germini (AKA mini gerbera) are another flower associated with celebration and joy. This is partly due to their vibrant colours. And partly due to their wide, open-faced blooms. There is a joie de vivre to these amazing little daisies, just perfect for the party atmosphere.
Spring bulbs

It’s a little late to be preparing these now, if you want to save a little cash and do it yourself. But most florists will offer baskets of pre-prepared spring bulbs. And these are the ultimate emblem of new beginnings. Narcissus, snowdrops, muscari, and the like, can bring a delicate blend of scent and colour into your home in the darkest of months. Spreading joy with their simple, fresh, beauty.
The New Year can be a difficult occasion to buy flowers for. Some florists are closed. Delivery services are limited. And it’s not always easy to know which flowers will work best for the occasion. The best idea is to plan ahead and speak to your florist today. That way, you can make sure that they are offering a New Year’s service, you can talk to them about the best blooms they’re likely to have available, and book your arrangement while you can.
