Which Flowers Symbolise Gratitude?

When you want to show your gratitude, saying ‘thank you’ often doesn’t feel enough. You want to make a bigger gesture, something that physically expresses how you feel. And with their beauty and colour, cut flowers can do the job perfectly. But some flowers carry more meaning than others. So, what are the best flowers to choose if you want to show your gratitude?

Which Flowers Are the Best for Saying Thank You?

There are many different reasons to show gratitude. And each of these nuances can be reflected in your choice of flower.

Hydrangeas

With its big mop of usually-pastel-toned blooms, the hydrangea is a familiar sight to most of us. But as well as being beautiful, in Japan the hydrangea has traditionally been used as an emblem of thanks. Specifically, ‘thank you for being understanding’ or ‘thank you for forgiving me’. Which is a fairly hefty remit for a fairly hefty flower! And if you want to get it spot-on, blue is a deeper sign of gratitude than pink or white.

Roses

Roses have a range of meanings dependant on their colour. So, while the red rose symbolises love and the yellow rose friendship, the pastel shades of peach and pink are used to denote thanks. Usually reserved for a loved one, pastel roses are the perfect way to say, ‘thank you for being there’.

Tulips

Tulips are another flower with multiple colour-related meanings. But with their zingy, happy shades, the yellow tulip represents joyful thanks. So, they make a great way to show how happy another person’s actions have made you feel.

Daisies

Daisies are another happy flower. And they have a range of meaning, depending on their colour – purity, innocence, secrecy, loyalty, cheerfulness, and new beginnings. And it’s these meanings that can make daisies a really good choice for a thank you gift. Whether it’s ‘thank you for sticking by me’, ‘thanks for keeping my secret’, or ‘thanks for being my friend’.

Succulents

Succulents don’t make good cut flowers, but they do provide a longer-lasting thank you. Known to symbolise tenacity, strength, and selfless love, they are a lovely way to say, ‘thank you for your support’. Whether that’s physical, emotional, or financial. They are long-lasting, easy to care for, and can look really beautiful.

 Sweet peas

Although seasonal and never available through florists, a posy of sweet peas makes a lovely thank you gesture. But this time, it’s a sort of ‘thank you and goodbye’. Which probably stems from their transitory nature.

Saying ‘thank you’ can be really important. Whether to a friend or stranger. It’s a way to establish mutual positivity and to build strong relationships. It can make you feel better, and even has associations with improved mental health. But more than anything else, it can be a simple way to show another human being that you appreciate them. And that’s a really powerful thing.

Whatever the reason, get in touch with Blue Florist to order your ‘thank you’ flower arrangement.
