One of the wonderful things about modern horticulture – and shipping, for that matter – is that we can access all kinds of blooms year-round. If we want daffodils in October, someone will be able to get them to us. But there’s always something a little bit special about buying seasonal flowers. The flowers seem fresher. They will often last for longer. And, in some cases, seasonal flowers can be a lot more cost effective.
In June and July, as British summer comes into force, you’re absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting seasonal cut flowers. But if you’re looking for some inspiration for flowers to give in the month of July, here are some of our favourites.
JULY FLOWERS
FREESIA

As far as we’re concerned, freesias are one of the very best cut flowers you can give. With their elegant trumpets, array of shades and sublime scent, there is a freesia for pretty much every occasion. Be loud and proud with vibrant yellows or calm and sedate with delicate purples, as you can see in the Amethyst Dusk arrangement. Whatever your preference, unless you happen to be sensitive to smells, there is a freesia for you.
ALSTROMERIA

There’s a touch of exoticism to alstromeria flowers that we really love. But although they fare from South America originally, they grow happily in the UK and this is their time to shine. These beautiful blooms work wonderfully well in all kinds of bouquets, but we think they’re at their best in times of celebration. As you can see in the Baby Blush Gift Box.
ROSES

To be fair, you can find roses throughout the seasons, but in summer you have the pick of the bunch. From riotous reds all the way through the colour spectrum to the softest of ivory tones, like those we use in our Growing Love arrangement. Roses are thought to be the most popular flower in the world. Almost every culture values them. And that’s what helps to make them such a stellar choice for gift bouquets.
STOCKS

Stocks are another of those flowers as prized for their scent as they are for their appearance. With delphinium-like rosettes in shades of pink, purple, white and cream, the blooms of the stock are simply stunning and add a voluptuousness to arrangements like our hand-tied Berry Smoothie, as well as holding their own alone.
LISIANTHUS

The lisianthus is one of those floral staples that everyone loves but few non-gardeners or florists know the name of. Most commonly seen in cool tones, these delicately blousy blooms are a popular choice for brides, but can work well in almost any kind of arrangement. We particularly love the rich purple shade found in the Beaming Brights Gift Box.
In the summer months, you’re really spoilt for choice when it comes to cut flowers. From the zing of asclepias to soft shades of the syringa, you can find in-season blooms for every taste and occasion. And if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, why not let our experts lead the way with a Florist’s Choice arrangement?
