Our Top Five Favourite Orange Flowers

We’re officially in autumn (although the weather hasn’t felt like it!). And that calls for a whole new colour palette. Whether it’s the falling leaves or Halloween pumpkins, it’s a season inextricably associated with orange. So, we thought we’d celebrate the season with a run down of our favourite orange blooms.

Five Fabulous Orange Flowers for Autumn Colour

Gerbera

Gerberas come in a wide range of colours, from the softest pastel shades to the most vibrant reds. In fact, they are available in every colour but blue. But orange gerberas are hard to beat. Like sunflowers, they turn their heads to track the sun as it moves from east to west. Rather than a single flower, each bloom is made from hundreds of mini florets. And when cut, they can happily last in a vase for up to 14 days. But the thing we like most about these beautiful big daisies is that they always look so happy!

Roses

If you’re going to buy roses, most people opt for red, pink, or white. But orange roses can be simply breath-taking. Although they were traditionally used to denote desire, energy, enthusiasm, and fascination, they are not often used symbolically these days. Instead, they make the perfect choice when you’re looking for a pop of colour. But because you can find so many different shades of orange rose, from soft peach to the brightest tangerine, it’s possible to create a beautifully contrasting orange arrangement simply from roses.

Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria is another florist’s favourite for its brilliant flowers and incredible vase life. And the beauty of this flower is that each and every bloom comes in a range of shades. So, if you choose carefully, you can have three or four different oranges on a single flower. And this means that alstroemeria can not only look incredible in a vase on their own, but present many opportunities to complement and contrast with different flowers in a larger arrangement.

Protea

There’s something almost alien about the flowers of the protea, but they really are uniquely stunning. And in orange, it’s like bringing a burst of autumn sunshine into your home. If well cared for, they usually last 10-14 days when cut, and they can’t help but draw the eye. So, if you’re looking for a flower that’s a little bit different, the protea will truly fit the bill.

Lilies

Lilies can be a divisive flower. You either love them or hate them. They are big – and in orange, they are incredibly bold – and they fill the air with scent. However, their pollen can stain and they’re no good for pet owners. But if you’re looking for orange flowers that really WOW, you can’t beat the lily. Lasting around 10-14 days in a vase, they can look beautifully statuesque with three or five stems alone in a clear glass vase. But they also add real pazazz to a floral arrangement.

Orange flowers aren’t to everyone’s taste. They’re not on trend. And they can be hard to work into your décor. But if you choose well, they can look fabulous, bringing some vibrancy and cheer into your home on a drear autumn day.
